The Importance of Preventive Care & Vet Check Ups
Pet annual exams are vital to helping your pet maintain good long-term physical health.
Combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition, these examinations include regular physical checkups to afford your pet the best chance at a good quality of life and long-term health.
When you bring your pet in for their regular vet check up, we can prevent health issues from developing in the first place, or detect them early - when they are most treatable.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Vet Check Up
During a pet annual exam, the vet will thoroughly examine your pet to get a complete picture of his or her general health. A physical exam includes these elements:
General Condition
Your pet may not be able to tell us if they're in pain, but his or her general demeanor and condition can provide clues as to their physical health. How they stand and walk, their level of alertness, and whether their weight is in proportion to their size are all important indicators of overall health.
Coat & Skin
Your pet's coat and skin will be examined for symptoms of potential conditions, including excessive dryness or oiliness, bumps, lumps, abnormal hair loss, dandruff or shedding.
Face & Head
Your pet's nose, eyes and ears will be checked for discharge or abnormalities. We will also inspect the mouth for signs of oral health problems such as periodontal diseases or plaque buildup.
Internal Health
Heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure and pulse give important clues to their heart health. We'll record these to ensure they're normal. We will then examine the lungs for any evidence of abnormal breathing.
The abdomen will be examined to ensure the kidneys, bladder, spleen, intestines, stomach and liver all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort. Lymph nodes will also be checked for swelling or pain.
Puppies & Kittens
In their first few weeks of life, puppies and kittens need attentive medical care to get off to a healthy start.
We'll provide your new furry friend a complete physical examination and appropriate immunizations, along with deworming medication. We will also test for intestinal parasites. You'll receive a kitten or puppy kit filled with samples and educational material to help you care for your newest family member.

Once your pet has had his or her initial appointment, you'll return periodically for required booster shots.
