Giving Back To The Community

by Heike Mayes

Having worked in the veterinary profession for over 20 years, I have had the opportunity to be a part of specialty veterinary medicine, emergency and urgent veterinary care, general practice all over the Puget Sound area. It wasn't until I found Northwest Veterinary Associates, that I felt truly at home. Unlike many corporate practices, I found that NWVA had my same personal outlook on high quality care, for not only pets, clients, but also employees. They truly followed their motto "We Care".

I joined the Northgate Veterinary Clinic team in 2001 and I have seen this great organization grow to new levels, most importantly the culture of giving back. Our two businesses constantly focus on personal growth and development as individuals. In turn, this circles back to the care of our fellow team mates and most importantly pets. We have several leadership teams amongst both our Everett Veterinary and Seattle Veterinary locations and we make a constant effort do boost morale at our daily team meetings. It has been a refreshing and positive workplace, full of resources to grow and further educate ourselves in relation to veterinary innovations and personal development.

In 2014 we decided to do more than invest in our team, but to also give back to our Seattle and Everett communities. For each pet exam, we give $1 back to a 5013c charity. These organizations are nominated buy our team members and chosen by the client. At the end of each quarter, we get to present a check to the winner.

I'm so very grateful to be a part of a company that cares so much. I encourage you to be a part of our change as well. The power of taking small steps to make a positive change, can create big changes and I'm proud to be a part of something so great.
